Self Defence Courses
Our courses are designed specifically geared for those people who are looking to learn simple, straightforward personal protection skills.
The Hit Back course provides an integrative approach to dealing with physical aggression and verbal threat. The unique progression of skills is intended to help you develop greater awareness and vigilance, hone observational and judgement skills, learn communication techniques to defuse potentially volatile situations, and acquire competency in physical self-defence tactics for use when preventative measures fail.
This particular progression of skills, referred to as the Triple 'A' Self Defence Method of Response, reflects the belief that prevention and postponement of physical aggression are critical self-defence skills. Hence the first three levels focus on strategies and skills to be implemented before the onset of physical aggression, that is, before you are grabbed, shoved, punched, or hit.
An important concept integrated into the Hit Back course and related to the notion of doing everything possible to postpone or prevent aggression is the ethic of least harm. This is the principle, written into law, that requires that we use only that amount of force that is reasonable and necessary to protect ourselves and others.
Another unique aspect of the Hit Back course is the emphasis on training mind and emotions as well as the body. Within each step, progressively more challenging and realistic drills help you to increase your ability to maintain presence of mind, to make accurate observations, to determine possible options and risks, and to select effective and appropriate choices for defence.
While the study of self-defence is serious subject, it need not necessarily be a grim or sombre experience. The instructors of our Hit Back course will encourage you to have fun and enjoy this confidence-building journey of self-discovery and empowerment!
